Celtel subscribers in East Africa will now communicate at a flat rate. The mobile telephony operator has launched a one network service that will also enable the subscribers in the region to top up credit in all the three currencies.

Celtel Chief Executive Gerhard May also announced plans to role out another service that will allow subscribers to communicate through video conferencing.

While launching the new service, May said customers will be able to top up on the network using the local currencies without having to convert .

May however, said Celtel Kenya will only interconnect with internet service provider AccessKenya after further modifications on both services.

AccessKenya wants local mobile phone companies to facilitate an interconnection, a move that would see a reduction in the cost of calling.
