Bulgaria’s Vivatel (BTC Mobile) has announced that its subscriber base has exceeded 500,000 customers on the 3rd September, less than 10 months after launching operations. Vivatel launched it’s prepay service with the unique “talk for free” promotion which recharged to the customers prepay account all of their usage up to January 6, 2006. Postpay subscription services were launched a little later, in March 2006.
We have been overwhelmed at the rate at which Bulgarian mobile customers have chosen Vivatel’s services”, stated Richard Shearer, the Chief Executive Officer of Bulgaria’s newest mobile operator. “We have managed to reach this milestone in a much shorter time period than either of our competitors despite launching services into such a highly penetrated market” Mr Shearer explained.
“Vivatel has brought much needed competition to the Bulgarian market and its launch has resulted in the cost of mobile telephony being significantly reduced in this country. Bulgarians now enjoy better value, better quality services as a result of Vivatel’s entry to the market” said Richard Shearer.
The Mobile World database reports that Vivatel’s rival operators are Globul and MTel with just under 2.7 million and 3.85 million subscribers respectively.
